so i bought a wifi R4 upgrade revolution for ds (ndsl/nds) to put my sons games on a micro sdhc card?

I have a ndsi xl and the micro card is to be put in the r4 card that looks just like a ds game but when turning the system on it pops up unable to read data or something is their some thing im missing when i put the micro card in the computer it pops up and lets you in to all the games so my question is am i missing a step on the dsi xl or do i just have the wrong r4 card for the dsi xl
